Practices
Health & Safety
Committed to exemplary standards. We strive on maintaining ‘best in industry’ Health and Safety standards and on promoting a positive health and safety culture of continuous improvement. Our processes adopt the principles of the Occupation Health and safety act and are overseen by a dedicated Safety, Health and Environment Specialist with a thorough understanding of the construction industry, statutory requirements and a hands-on approach to working within our team.
Our Site Managers have been through the Site Manager Safety Trainings and have achieved higher education qualifications in site management.
All our sites are subject to monthly independent inspections. Our SHE Manager also carries out monthly inspections, ensuring that our Health and Safety performance is audited on a fortnightly basis.
Sustainability
Three pillars of sustainability
Herobs (K) Limited is committed to the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, economic and social sustainability.
- Environmental sustainability
Our SHE Manager ensures we adopt and comply with the latest environmental best practice. Our estimating, procurement and contract teams analyse materials and processes and carry out environmental value engineering; replacing single-use, non-renewable materials with those that can easily be re-purposed. For every project we create an Environmental Management Plan and undertake Environmental Impact Risk Assessments. Waste management methods include active reductions of waste produced in addition to the reduction of waste to landfill and the use of organisations to help recycle wherever possible. - Economic sustainability
We have a direct employment policy and seek to employ a workforce local to the areas in which we operate. Additionally, we utilise our Local Supply Chain software to make procurement decisions which result in a supply chain based in close proximity to our sites to increase opportunities for local employment and economic gain across the Greater East Africa. - Social sustainability
As a family-orientated organisation we have a proven commitment to the development of our employees. We have policies in place related to the education and training of a workforce recruited from the areas in which we work. We provide regular training and awareness programmes to our teams and supply chain, including environmental and sustainability training through project specific tool-box talks and presentations. We are strong proponents of social responsibility – undertaking community initiatives on our projects.
Social Value
Active in our communities
As a socially responsible organisation we recognise the importance of being active in the communities in which we are working. We regularly take the opportunity to engage and educate, undertaking community initiatives on our projects.
Local employment
We are proud to have employed a direct labour force and we regularly recruit our staff, including apprentices, from the communities in which we work. This was incorporated not only to help raise employment standards for employees and businesses across the areas we work but also to promote social inclusion, drive economic growth and raise living standards.
Supply Chain
Local suppliers and subcontractors
Herobs (K) Limited has built up a sizeable network of local suppliers and subcontractors. We recognise the importance of our supply chain and aim to cultivate long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with like-minded companies. On all our schemes we look to involve the supply chain as early as possible – helping us to identify Best Value at each stage.
We regularly hold our own supply chain events with a strong focus on sharing ideas and minimising our impact on the environment. We utilise local suppliers wherever possible who provide ethically-sourced, sustainable materials.
We select sub-contractors who display a strong work ethic and skills in collaboration. In support of the local economy 79% of our subcontractor spend is within 50 Metres of our projects.
A set of supply chain payment values ensure we pay our suppliers and subcontractors promptly at the agreed rates.
Should you wish to be considered for our approved list of sub-contractors please review our requirements and contact us to request our suppliers’ application form.
